The disease glaucoma is a progressive disease where the interocular eye pressure will increase and will damage the optic nerve. Those who have glaucoma will gradually lose their vision and sometimes it will lead to total blindness. There are several risk factors such as being over 60, having diabetes, not exercising enough and hereditary. Some say that stress can also play a huge part in getting glaucoma as well. There are though some alternative medicine and measures you can take to help promote healthy eyes and lower your risk of getting this disease.

A good thing you can do is to make sure that you get some sort of exercise each day. This is going to help your entire body but it is also a fact that when you exercise it actually lowers the interocular eye pressure and by this they have a lower risk of getting glaucoma.

Consider cutting back on the caffeine that you drink each day. The less caffeine that you drink each day is going to lower your risk of getting glaucoma. It seems that caffeine may actually increase the interocular eye pressure, which of course is the major factor in causing the disease.

This is an alternative therapy that is used to help regulate your bodily functions like your blood pressure, your stress, your heart rate as well as your body temperature. This can also be an effective treatment for many other different conditions.

You might want to consider getting some acupuncture if you are having problems with stress. Acupuncture is a great way to relieve stress and all of the symptoms especially depression. So in turn this will help you combat glaucoma at the same time.

Remember, alternative medicines are not a substitute for a regular eye exam. There are no symptoms that come with glaucoma until there is the beginning of some loss of vision. Only your eye doctor can perform the correct tests that will determine whether or not you have glaucoma.
